About Latinitas
Young Latinas are the fastest growing teen population in the United States, but they suffer from the highest rates of teen pregnancy, school drop out, drug abuse and depression. They are currently part of the majority population in Austin public schools. Latinitas is a non-profit organization with a mission to empower Hispanic girls through media and technology. During the last year, Latinitas has served over 2,500 Hispanic girls across Texas with our unique blend of multimedia enrichment and girl empowerment programs. Through after-school clubs, classes, camps, conferences, presentations and internships, girls have built confidence and learned how to express themselves creatively through media and technology. Since its inception, www.LatinitasMagazine.org, the first digital magazine for Hispanic girls, has reached over 1 million young readers with our success-themed content created by Latina girls for girls.
