SUMMER CAMP

Each summer, Central Texas local girls have an opportunity to get a taste of what their life could be like as a movie star, a news anchor, a photographer, a radio dj, a magazine writer, a poet, a graphic designer and more in the Latinitas Media Divas Summer Camp. Through this intense 2-week-long day camp program, girls in grades 4-8th can find their creative expression outlet by producing original media arts projects.

Latinitas Summer Camp Sessions 2009:
July 6-17 (2 weeks)
July 20-31 (2 weeks)
Camp cost: $125 per week/$250 for both weeks
Location: Mexican American Culture Center (600 River Street, Austin, TX)

All sessions include lessons in web and graphic design, writing, digital photography, radio, video, media literacy, Latino crafts and more.

Call the Mexican American Cultural Center (512.478.6222) to register girls ages 8 to 14.

Camp Latinitas is led by a team of women educators, role models and mentors experienced in guiding girls in hands-on lessons, interactive presentations, team challenges, and fun games that address girl issues and encourage self-esteem, expression, confidence and empowerment. Together with a host of inspiring guest speakers who are accomplished professional media-makers, Latinitas gives Austin girls an introduction on how to film their own movie, publish a girls' magazine, get heard on the radio airwaves, shoot photo documentaries, write about news affecting today's youth and perform a reading of their poetry. Through a series of multimedia arts and life-skills workshops, girls will discover practical and creative solutions to the most important of everyday challenges. For more information, email latinitascamp@ yahoo.com.
