OUTREACH WORKSHOPS

Outreach Workshops are collaborative programs held in partnership with local youth groups to offer girls an opportunity to participate in fun and engaging media lessons designed to develop skills and spark interest.

SPEAKERS BUREAU

Latinitas offers a speakers bureau to provide culturally relevent, girl-empowerment and media-related workshops for Hispanic girls in Central and West Texas. Latinitas has offered classes, panels, presentations and events for groups such as the Mother Daughter Program, GENaustin, YWCA, Expanding Your Horizons, Big Brother/ Big Sister, schools, church groups and many other youth groups. Latinitas teaches girls skills related to journalism, poetry, film-making, audio production, web design, internet navigation, graphic art and photography. Workshops are tailored to the interests of each group and revolve around themes such as confidence building, media awareness, body image, stereotypes, diversity, cultural pride, healthy relationships, violence prevention, bullying, goal setting, leadership, service learning, college preparation and several other girl-friendly topics.

LATINITAS CAREER & COLLEGE CONFERENCE

Latinitas offers an annual media career and college conference where Hispanic girls are invited to explore career opportunities in the media industry. During the conference, girls meet media professionals, connect with college student mentors, participate in hands-on workshops, and learn about educational opportunities that will help them reach their goals.

Find out how college can be your pathway to becoming a multi-media maker. Latinitas are invited to participate in a full-day conference which will guide you on how to prepare and get accepted into college. The event will feature a tour of the UTEP campus, tips on the college application process, a resume writing and college essay writing class, a panel presentation by college students majoring in journalism and workshops by professional journalists. GIRL SCOUT BADGES

Latinitas works with the Girl Scout Central Texas Council and the Rio Grande Council to offer troop media and technology workshops that help girls ages 11-17 in completing requirements for Badges and Interest Projects.
